Three Crosses Walking Group

Three Crosses Walking Group is a friendly group that walks on a monthly basis – usually on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. We meet at the Community Centre at 9.15am to share cars to the start point. Walks are usually between 6 and 10 miles duration, followed by a refreshment stop, and returning back to Three Crosses by mid to late afternoon. Details are circulated by email or the 3x Walking Group on WhatsApp about the week before with more information. Walkers need to confirm participation so that we wait for them! All walks are undertaken at your own risk. If you are interested, contact Belinda on 07884 126281 or Rayna on 07909 955305.

Recent walks have included:

A walk as part of the Gower Pilgrimage Week, walks around Cefn Bryn, Port Eynon, Penmaen Estate, Horton Oxwich, Llanmadoc Downs, Penrice Estate, Nicholaston Woods, Rhossili, Mewslade, Fall Bay, Tir Cethin, Wernbwll, Gelli Hir Woods, Reynoldston, Southgate, Pwll Du, Penrice Estate, Bishopston Woods, Cefn Bryn, Brandy Cove, Pontneddfechan Waterfalls, Pembrey Country Park, Afan Forest Park and a walk along the Loughor estuary towards Pontardulais. Local walks around Three Crosses, Gowerton, Penclawdd and Dunvant have also been enjoyed.

There is no walk in August. Our December walk is followed by a Christmas Lunch.

Wednesday 15th January 2025 – Belinda led this walk. Leave Community Centre at 9:30 or meet at Cwm Ivy car park at 10am. Walk to hide near Whiteford Point for a coffee/snack then those that want to walk to The Lifgthouse can walk from there. Remainder can stay at the hide a bit longer and join others at The Point to walk back along the beach and back to the car park. Total distance is 5.5 miles but the section out to The Lighthouse can be quite slow. Expect to be back at Cwm Ivy car park by 2pm. Wear strong boots as there will be mud and slippy terrain out to The Lighthouse. Walking poles may also be needed.

Wednesday 19th February 2025 – this is the walk that was recced by Belinda and Rayna last year. Oxwich to Port Eynon and back up the cost path to Oxwich Green and back along the road. There is a bit of country lane walking to avoid the mudpools. It’s about 6.75 miles. For this walk, we are leaving at 8:30 or Oxwich Bay Hotel car park at 9:00. Bring coffee and lunch, probably back in Oxwich by 13:30.

Future walks (more detail will be added once each recce has been completed).

Wednesday 19th March 2025 – this walk is to be led by Belinda and Rayna. Porteynon to West Pilton and back around the coastal walk. Walk is six miles long with some mud and steep parts on the coastal path and is around four hours duration. We will leave 9:15 from the Community Centre or meet at 9:45 in Porteynon. Remember to bring some lunch. We need to car share as parking in Porteynon is very expensive now. We will try and park close to The Ship Inn unless we have 5 per car so parking will not be so expensive if shared. Firm numbers are needed beforehand please.

Wednesday 23rd April 2025 (4th Wednesday due to Easter). Suzanne and Linda are to lead this walk around Penllergaer woods, approximately six miles long.

We are looking for volunteers for the next three walks.
