Three Crosses Walking Group

Three Crosses Walking Group is a friendly group that walks on a monthly basis – usually on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. We meet at the Community Centre at 9.15am to share cars to the start point. Walks are usually between 6 and 10 miles duration, followed by a refreshment stop, and returning back to Three Crosses by mid to late afternoon. Details are circulated by email or the 3x Walking Group on WhatsApp about the week before with more information. Walkers need to confirm participation so that we wait for them! All walks are undertaken at your own risk. If you are interested, contact Belinda on 07884 126281 or Rayna on 07909 955305.

Recent walks have included:

A walk as part of the Gower Pilgrimage Week, walks around Cefn Bryn, Port Eynon, Penmaen Estate, Llanmadoc Downs, Penrice Estate, Nicholaston Woods, Rhossili, Mewslade, Fall Bay, Penclawdd, Tir Cethin, Wernbwll, Gelli Hir Woods, Reynoldston, Penrice Estate, Nicholaston Woods, Cefn Bryn, Pontneddfechan Waterfalls, Pembrey Country Park, Afan Forest Park and a walk along the Loughor estuary towards Pontardulais. Local walks around Three Crosses, Gowerton and Dunvant have also been enjoyed.

There is no walk in August.

Wednesday 18th September 2024 – this was led by Suzanne and assisted by Rayna. There are a few regular walkers on holiday so this walk was a repeat of our July one. Starting from Three Crosses to GG’s in Penclawdd and back through the fields (3 and a half miles to Penclawdd, 7 in total). Those not walking were welcome to meet at 11am at GG’s for coffee. Walk commenced at the Community Centre at 9:30.

Wednesday 16th October 2024 – after an adventurous recce where Belinda and Rayna proved that some parts are usable, this walk was due to be from Port Eynon, Horton, Oxwich and back, approximately 7 miles. Walkers were asked to meet at Three Crosses Community Cenre at 9:15 or at Port Eynon main carpark for 9:45 (£3 charge per car). A walking pole was recommended as some of the cliff path was rocky. There will be mud!

Unfortunately due to inclement weather, this walk was postponed until Monday, 21st October. (Also postponed on the rescheduled day too, due to heavy rain).

Future walks (more detail will be added once each recce has been completed).

Wednesday 20th November 2024 – this walk will be led by Sue and John Lewis. It’s 5.6 miles from Southgate via the coastal path to Pwll Du and Brandy cove, returning via Bishopston Woods. There is an option to extend the walk to Caswell but this can be decided on the day. Poles are advised and there may be some mud. Bring snacks and lunch. Meet 9:15 at the Community Centre or 9:30 at the National Trust carpark at Southgate. The walk is dog friendly.

Wednesday 11th December 2024 – this walk will be led by Belinda, followed by our Christmas Lunch at The Poundffald pub.
