Three Crosses Walking Group

Three Crosses Walking Group is a friendly group that walks on a monthly basis – usually on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. We meet at the Community Centre at 9.15am to share cars to the start point. Walks are usually between 6 and 10 miles duration, followed by a refreshment stop, and returning back to Three Crosses by mid to late afternoon. Details are circulated by email or the 3x Walking Group on WhatsApp about the week before with more information. Walkers need to confirm participation so that we wait for them! All walks are undertaken at your own risk. If you are interested, contact Belinda on 07884 126281 or Rayna on 07909 955305.

Recent walks have included:

A walk as part of the Gower Pilgrimage Week, walks around Cefn Bryn, Port Eynon, Penmaen Estate, Llanmadoc Downs, Penrice Estate, Nicholaston Woods, Rhossili, Mewslade, Penclawdd, Pontneddfechan Waterfalls, Pembrey Country Park, Afan Forest Park and a walk along the Loughor estuary towards Pontardulais. Local walks around Three Crosses, Gowerton and Dunvant have also been enjoyed.

Wednesday 13 December 2023 – this walk was led by Belinda and was followed by Christmas lunch. We met at The Poundffald car park in readiness for a 10am start. We went over Cilonnen and round to the entrance to Gelli Hir Woods on the road, and back through the rear of Gelli Hir Farm and returned to the Poundffald. Walk took around 2.5 hours. We were back at The Poundffald for 12:30 in time for lunch at 13:00.

Wednesday 17th January 2024 – this walk was led by Jean and Linda. Starting from the King Arthur in Reynoldston, what words (///listen.pony.player) with a start of 9:45 or meet at 3Xs Community Centre @ 9:15 for car share. The walk was approximately 7.5 to 8 miles long with approximately 800 feet elevation and took about three hours. Unfortunately as Mill Wood is closed for six months, the initial stretch of the walk was along the main road. The route then went through the Penrice Estate, Nicholaston Woods and back over Cefn Bryn. Some of the paths were very muddy so poles were of help. The walk was not suitable for dogs.

Wednesday 21st February 2024 – this walk was led by John and Sue. Starting at the small carpark at Pembrey Country Park for 10am or meet at 3xs Community Centre at 9:15 for car share. (The small car park is on the right just after the bridge with the traffic lights and is free to park). This walk is approximately six miles with fields, woods and beach included and should take about three hours including stops. It’s suitable for dogs; there is only one area that a lead would be required. There is a cafe at the end of the walk. Due to inclement weather, this walk is postponed until our next walk on 20th March.

Wednesday 20th March 2024 – again the Pembrey walk was too waterlogged so a local walk from Three Crosses to Penclawdd and back again was enjoyed by all. Hopefully the postponed Pembrey walk can be done later this year.

Wednesday 17th April 2024 – Rayna led this walk. The walk was postponed until Wednesday 24th April due to the WI annual dinner being arranged on 17th April. This walk was from Rhossili car park up to the Beacon then down to Talgarth’s Well, through Middleton and down to the coastal route through Mewslade, Fall Bay and back to Rhossili – A total of just over 6 miles. This walk is not suitable for dogs as there are calves and lambs in the fields.

Wednesday 15th May 2024 – Belinda led this walk from Three Crosses down to Penclawdd via Berthlwyd then up to Tircethin and Wernbwll and then across to Cilonnen Road, walking back to Three Crosses. A total of just under 7 miles.

Wednesday 19th June 2024 – this walk was to be led by Suzanne and Belinda but unfortunately it had to be cancelled.
