Stroke Club
There has been a Stroke Club in Three Crosses for nearly 20 years. At one time the Stroke Association organised and funded it, but since 2009 the club has been run by and for the members themselves. The club is based in the Community Centre in Three Crosses and has members from all over the Gower and Swansea Areas.
We are affiliated to the Stroke Association and enjoy the mant benefits that brings. We work closely with the local co-ordinators, and the team based in Cardiff, to provide a ‘life after stroke’ service. We love fundraising for our own club and for the Stroke Association.
We are a non-profit making, self help organisation run by members, carers and volunteers. The latter have either survived strokes or cared for those who have. We have a wealth of experience in helping people to improve and maintain their communication abilities and to provide a friendly environment and opportunities in which to practice them. We make no excuses for all wanting to have fun in everything we do, life is too short!
One of the important aspects of our group that is often overlooked is that, while the volunteers are working with the members in small groups, their carers can have time to chat, discuss concerns and often, inform other carers of any news. In other words support each other too.
Aims and Ojectives
- To improve or maintain the communication abilities of those members who have suffered a stroke.
- To improve the quality of life for people who have had a stroke and their carers.
- To provide social and recreational activities.
- To raise funds to be used for financing these activities and to meet other requirements of the members.
- To have fun doing the above.
Membership
Membership will be open to any person who has had a stroke or any related illness, their relatives, friends, or to any person who volunteers to help in the above aims and objectives.

April and we had a great tour of the Liberty Stadium followed by lunch at La Parilla!
May and our visit to the Wetlands & Wetlands Centre at Penclacwydd and onto Hen Dderwen to eat (not duck though!).
Feed the birds… tuppence a bag…….
Still in May on the 29th we held the Annual ‘Step out for Stroke’ Sponsored Walk along the seafront in Mumbles. In partnership with Stroke Association Wales we raised over £3300 for Stroke survivors in Swansea & Wales. Can we have better weather next year pleeeeeze?
August and we had our annual away day, this time to Cardiff Castle. It was a brilliant day, the weather was great and Dr Who popped in to visit the castle as well! Fortunately he spotted our two troublemakers and promptly locked them up!! Unfortunatelyt they escaped just in time to catch the bus, and the journey to Cowbridge for lunch.
December and we have had a really merry time! Christmas lunch at the King Arthur on the 4th followed by another at the Poundffald on the 11th !! Both meals were excellent and we had a great time .
2015 Next year is going to be as good as any before it! We are starting to plan our activities early in January and there will lots of in club fun, lots of singing and I’m sure plenty of meals and trips out to look forward to!!
